As the first full feature on The Fan Embassy, I wanted to showcase to our readers what the site will be all about. The following is my account of the “Buffalo Invasion Party”, known as “The biggest Buffalo party not in Buffalo”. This event celebrates all things Buffalo – especially the Bills – 1300 miles away at Shooters Waterfront Cafe in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Why a Buffalo party in Ft. Lauderdale? The Buffalo Bills annual game in South Florida against the division rival Miami Dolphins. For many hometown Bills fans, along with scores of Buffalo transplants who now call South Florida home, it has become an annual tradition to gather under the sun for the game, and the Invasion Party the night before. At the event, Buffalonians cut loose and enjoy themselves, celebrating their city, it’s team, it’s traditions, and it’s food.

On my recent trip to the South Florida area, I had a great chance to find out, as LSU had a big game on October 3rd, 2009 against South Eastern Conference rival Georgia.

After some research, I found a place that might fit the bill as a tiger fan haven called Shuck N Dive. The bar/restaurant is located in a plaza on North Federal Highway south of Sunrise Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Walking in from the parking lot my immediate observations confirmed that I would not be disappointed in the game atmosphere. The game was already underway and speakers on the patio broadcast the game audio for fans seated outside. Also, the smell of Cajun food hung in the air and a large sign perched in the parking lot before the entrance read: “Shrimp -N- Grits – Geaux LSU!”  Upon walking in, the game volume filled the room along with an intensified smell of hearty southern food. All around the medium sized bar room was a sea of purple and gold jerseys, hats and shirts. The walls were littered with Louisiana themed posters and paraphernalia. The items ranged from a large stuffed tiger draped in large Mardi Gras beads, numerous New Orleans themed pictures and fleur-de-lis.
